“The King of Kilimanjaro Safaris”

NANTS INGONYAMA!!!!!!  (Swahili for “Here Comes a Lion”)

The mighty king of the jungle stands guard on the rocks in the Kilimanjaro Safaris attraction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.  The lions are rarely seen up and around, leading to a Pixelmania “inside-joke” about whether or not the “animatronic lions are in B-mode” or not.  For the uninitiated, the lions are clearly not “animatronic” and B-mode refers to Disney-speak for an attraction that is not operating in proper working order (A-mode).

Having ridden the Kilimanjaro Safaris countless times over the year, I can probably say that I have seen the lions up and about less than 10 times total so any chance to get a photo of the lions is a real treat that must be taken full advantage of.  The sunlight was glorious for this shot, despite it being 4:50pm in July in Florida.  I absolutely love the colors and the open sky in this shot and this will remain an all-time favorite for me.

Not much more to say other than to please enjoy this photo of the beautiful male lion from Kilimanjaro Safaris.
