“Sorcerer Mickey Hat”
(this post originally appeared 4/2014 but is being re-posted due to the pending removal of The Hat)
The Sorcerer Mickey Hat (AKA The Big A** Hat) from Disney’s Hollywood Studios is one of those divisive elements in Walt Disney World that nearly everyone has an opinion about. Personally, I very much like the hat, although for full disclosure I should say that I was a fan of the Mickey Wand that stood over Spaceship Earth in Epcot from 1999-2007.
This symbol, from Disney’s Fantasia, stands at the end of Hollywood Boulevard in front of Grauman’s Chinese Theater which, of course, hosts The Great Movie Ride. I am an fan of anything Mickey Mouse and it seems like there is not enough Mickey in the parks these days.
In this photo, please note the spotlights streaming in the background of the photo. For reasons unknown, they were discontinued several years ago and I think that a big part of the nighttime visual excitement from Disney’s Hollywood Studios was lost with the spotlights.
I am very sad that Disney’s Hollywood Studios is removing The Hat from the front of the park and hope that it can be re-located somewhere else. Did YOU like the Sorcerer Mickey Hat? Please leave a comment in the space below and let your opinion be recorded.
