THE PICTURE OF THE DAY, 7/4/2014
America, spread your golden wings
Sail on freedom’s wind, across the sky.
Great bird, with your golden dreams
Flying high, flying high.
These legendary lyrics from The America Adventure attraction in Epcot’s World Showcase set forth a spirit of hope and optimism for all who walk upon the ground known as the United States of America. Regardless of your political opinion or party affiliation, the fact that we can speak, love, and worship as we please is what makes this country great. Granted their are a few things that still need to be worked out, but I am proud to be an American and am thankful everyday for the sacrifices made by those that came before me. Happy Birthday, America!
This photo, from the final scene of The American Adventure, depicts Benjamin Franklin and Mark Twain and they wax poetic about the founding of this country and the hope that America will continue to evolve and grow for many centuries to come. Mark Twain does warn, however, against complacency: “We now face the danger, which in the past has been the most destructive to the humans: Success, plenty, comfort and ever-increasing leisure. No dynamic people has ever survived these dangers.”
The American Adventure is a masterpiece of technical expertise and Imagineering. I had the privilege of interviewing and sitting near Marty Sklar on 10/1/2007 for Epcot’s 25th anniversary and it was a very memorable experience. What is YOUR favorite scene or memory from The American Adventure or as America in general? Please leave your comments below.
