“Spaceship Mickey”
One of my favorite shots from the Flower and Garden 2012 gallery is this night-time shot of the Epcot entrance at night. Sorcerer Mickey stands in topiary form against a backdrop of Spaceship Earth surrounded by topiary enchanted broomsticks in a nod to the Sorcerer’s Apprentice from Fantasia.
For this shot I used an apeture of f/8 (remember, larger number = deeper depth of field) to keep the background somewhat in focus which still making Mickey the center of attention. If I used a smaller aperture (larger f/stop) Spaceship Earth would have been even more in focus which would have made it a bit harder to separate Mickey from the background as photos are 2-D images as opposed to seeing it in 3-D which is how our eyes work.
I also paid particular attention to balancing the edges of Spaceship Earth on the sides of the image as it helps keeps the symmetry and balance that I was aiming for.
EQUIPMENT USED FOR THIS SHOT:
- Canon 5dMk2 (discontinued)
- Canon 24-105 f/4L
- Adobe Lightroom
