Temple of Heaven
“Temple of Heaven”
Two of the most beautiful areas in all of Walt Disney World are the Canada and China Pavilions in Epcot’s World Showcase. Yesterday as we sat down to eat lunch at the Lotus Blossom Cafe (LOVE the orange chicken), the light striking the Temple of Heaven was just perfect.
There is a nice big sky over top of the Temple of Heaven in the China Pavilion and the lily pads in the water give a bit of foreground interest to the shot. The China Pavilion is masterfully designed and beautifully detailed; there is so much to look at in the wooden beams of the Temple that you could lose heaping amounts of time just staring at its intricacies.
What I love about the Temple of Heaven is the way it is situated in the Pavilion. If you choose to photograph it from the side, there are bodies of water to set into the foreground. If you choose to shoot it from straight on, the walkway gives a converging lines approach to the Temple base, giving your eyes something to focus on as it leads you to the Temple.
For this shot, I used my Sony Nex-6’s Auto HDR mode, with a 4 stop EV spread so that I could capture all of the highlights in the Temple and still have some detail in the shadows. As I have mentioned before, the HDR mode fires three shots in rapid succession and them assembles them into a finished image. I then tweaked the sky and contrast for optimal visual appeal.
