“Raising the Flag”
Happy belated Memorial Day, everyone. I sincerely hope you all took a few moments out of your busy weekend to reflect on the thousands of brave men and women of our Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice so we can continue to live the free life that we live. This photo, taken during Pixelmania last year (2012), shows the Spirit of America Fife and Drum Corps “Raising the Flag” in a pose that evokes memories of Joe Rosenthal’s legendary photo from February 23, 1945 on Mount Suribachi.
I had never seen the Fife and Drum Corps re-create this pose and thought it was a fitting and appropriate tribute to all Servicemen, living or deceased. I always enjoy watching the Fife and Drum Corps and could hardly believe my eyes when I saw them starting to pose for Raising the Flag. Perhaps by coincidence, or maybe not, this photo was taken on 12/7/2012, the anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor. At any rate, I felt this would be a fitting and thoughtful tribute for Memorial Day. Please continue to pray and offer your support for the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces, that may all be brought back to their families safely.
