On the morning of 10/13/2012, we had the pleasure of hitting The Magic Kingdom nice and early and were treated to a glorious morning. As you can see, there are barely any clouds in the sky and the early morning sunlight led to some beautiful colors on Main Street USA. As an added bonus, Main Street USA was in full Halloween decor, complete with the Mickey pumpkins on the lamp posts.
The idea for this shot was simple… feature the Mickey pumpkins while showing Cinderella Castle in the background in “soft-focus”. I could have made the Castle even softer by using a larger aperture (smaller f/number, such as f/4) but I thought it looked a bit too soft on the back of my camera when shooting it wide open. I used a bit of fill-flash (using the awesome Canon 270EX II, a MUST for any Canon shooter) to pop the colors in the Mickey pumpkins then did a bit of painting with light in Photoshop to tone down the flash effect on the lamp post itself, so it was not as distracting.
