Dave Manning (@fotodave) recently suggested that a Disney Picture of the Day come from Animal Kingdom’s signature attraction, Kilimanjaro Safari. I thought it was a great idea and really wanted to share a rare look at once of the lions that hang out on Pride Rock. This is literally the FIRST TIME I have ever seen a lion up and about on the Safari since we starting going to the parks in 2003. Literally. This photo was taken with a bunch of my buddies on the Safari truck during Pixelmania! in December of 2009. When we saw the lioness up and about, you couldn’t even hear the tour guide over the Crack! Crack! Crack! of all the camera shutters going haywire. If you note that the shooting settings below seem a little unusual due to the daylight conditions, remember that the Safari trucks are fast moving, bumpy vehicles and you need a fast shutter speed to overpower the movement from the vehicle if you want to ensure a nice, sharp photograph. The sky was flat and gray, having just stopped raining about thirty minutes prior to us going on the ride, so there was nice, diffused light. Post processing included Photoshop CS5 and Topaz DeNoise.
